Whether you're a Sony or Microsoft fanboy, whether you care to realize it or not...Microsoft is the supreme player here and they're not even taking advantage of what they can do in the industry. Let's look at some key factors, here: The XBox 360 has limited-compatibility with Microsoft's own Vista OS platform which means they're also limited DX10 support (SM 4.0), it startles the hell out of me that something so mockingly obvious isn't on their agenda for winning the war of consoles.
The 360 will be pulled to the side next year and will have 65nm CPU cores installed...which will resolve the heat issue and will possibly bring prices down (although not significantly). However, that's all that will happen the core frequencies will remain the same...which is a slight underestimation of it's own strength. Increasing the frequency to a mild 3.52GHz will do wonders for the cooler chip as it will be able to perform calculations faster than you can think of them.
Another thing would be to welcome full-compatibilty with Vista and all of it's treasures....as well as installing GDDR-4. Of course, for the most part this is totally impractical (somewhat) as it would render most all ready owned 360's obselete and would call for a total redesign of the hardware. Not to mention 360 ver. 2.0 will cost you an arm and a leg. Maybe Microsoft knows this...but they've all ready sold the 360 cheaper than what it's really worth....so it's just an idea.
Please leave some insight....I'll love a good conversation on this topic.
