The following opinion goes on accordance with a Gamespot article I've read, take that as lightly as you care to, but I will edit this thread accordingly once I get my hands on the two subjects at hand.
Now, ladies and gentlemen...we all know the X1900 XT and X1900 XTX slays that of which is nVidia's own 7800 GTX 512, respectively. With that said one had to know nVidia wouldn't take a defeat lightly and they've gone about to answer the threat known as ATI's X1900 XT and XTX video cards with the release of the 7900 GTX.
Much like the X1900, nVidia's 7900 GTX shares a lot with it's 7800 GTX 512 brethren....to make a long story short it's basically the 7800 GTX 512, but on steroids and with more pixel pipelines and a higher clock speed...just as the X1900 XT is an X1800 on steroids...with more pixel pipelines. See the similarities?
The 7900 GTX comes very much in the same way the X1900 XTX has presented itself, a 650 MHz core with 1.6 GHz of GDDR-3 memory. But how does it stack up with the X1900 XT and X1900 XTX?
Well, where the 7800 GTX 512 has failed against the X1900 in CrossFire, the 7900 GTX in SLI greatly makes up for it's brethren's mishaps. In games such as F.E.A.R and Quake IV, the 7900 GTX exceeds the X1900 by a means of 10 - 12 % generally. Both are dreadly powerful but due to overclocked versions of the 7900 GTX that clock around 690 MHz, the edge is with nVidia on this one.
There's still a few instances where the X1900 XT and XTX still shine and put up a damned good fight, but ultimately it isn't enough when compared to the more powerful 7900 GTX.
Will ATI take this defeat lying down or will they release a more powerful version of the X1900 XTX, maybe an XTX PE? Who knows?
....Only time will tell.
