I decided to get a little bit snazzy with the title for this edition and it's for good cause. This subject was mentioned in the very first writing of this column since then it has become more potently annoying and I must (must!) make fun of it. It is my purpose of being on this half-beautiful land we call Earth. It has been brought to my attention via Wikipedia (that really is an awesome site!) that the following movies will have sequels, but they'll be remakes...in essence starting all over again from the beginning. What the fsck? They are as follows: The Terminator (although this one I doubt being that it's called "T4" but what does that mean?), Halloween (currently dubbed Halloween 2007), Robocop (hopefully it won't turn out like 2 or 3, especially 3), and we can't forget the to be released Superman Returns.
Why Superman Returns you ask? If I understand correctly, it continues from where Superman 2 left off, officially making it "Superman 3" again. Now, now...hold your horses. Are you thinking "So what as long as its good?" Wrong. Whether its good or not, there's a faulted logic there, don't you see? If I remember the late Christopher Reeve looked for the most part - old. Pardon my french if you will, but I can't help but notice that this Superman doesn't look older, doesn't even look the same age, he looks younger. And his hair has become shorter, of course I understand the show must go on but really...
It might sell itself with the kiddies and such but I can almost guarantee that it won't sell with the purists (the guys who literally point out storylines in every issue and refer to the issue where this information is coming from) they might be able to pull it off in the long run, but not without controversy I can almost promise you that. Oh and on a little side note, Superman Returns does indeed continue from where Superman 2 left. Which in either fact or fiction dispels the continuation which was originally Superman III and Quest for Peace, respectively. Realistically speaking however I am totally on board with this seeing as how both did poorly at the box office. The only problem I do have with the movie is the actor who portrays Superman himself.
The same was done with Batman Begins, but not only does it ignore Forever and Batman and Robin (totally sucked) it ignores all the entire original trilogy as a whole. Taking a new step into the storyline, know I am a Batman fanatic (a purist if you will) and there were a few problems with the movie in terms of the storyline such as Ras Al-Ghul being present (far too early). Otherwise I totally enjoyed the movie, especially Bale he appears to be the perfect Batman, he has the attitude and the look. If you disagree, you're welcomed to it of course.
However, some things simply cannot be remade and nor should it be attempted. In closing I will point out a very valuable fact to leave you thinking: If indeed Halloween 2007 is in fact a remake of the first how are they going to cover the events that originally happened, and who wants to see a remake without Jamie Lee? Oh and if it is a remake as well, they're totally ignoring that Michael has a neice left and two other family members of which I forget (they were present in H20).
