Funny how I decided to read my old Maximum PC issues. One of them though I found was interesting was that there was a short article about how PC companies like Dell, HP, Microsoft, Intel, etc are developing EFI (Extendable Firmware Interface) to replace the aging BIOS.
Guess what? Mac Intel's use EFI.
Whenever these companies decide on the EFI architecture and get the ball rolling: All of the mainstay OS's will be compatible with every PC.

Apple was moving from IBM-built PowerPC processors in its Mac computers to x86 processors made by Intel. The shift was necessitated by the simple fact that IBM’s consumer processors — especially for laptops — simply weren’t competitive with the work Intel was doing.
