Despite AMD coming out with a new socket for it's next generation line of CPU's, I whole heartedly believe that AMD is taking a very risky path. What do I mean by this? CPU architectures is the keyword.
Basically the introduction of a new socket does not indicate the introduction to a new generation of CPU's fresh off the bat. That is to say the first CPU's to be on that socket is the new generation. Conroe works just fine on LGA 775, even though LGA 775 has been working with Prescott since whenever.
While Intel has had to make a new architecture based on their mobile processor, AMD seems to have taken the road that they're not going to kill their K8 just yet. That's right, the X2 5000+ and FX-62 are still part of the current gen K8L architecture, while Intel had to completely revamp theirs in order to finally compete. While the FX-62 does get dominated by Conroe, it isn't completely dominated. Something or the other, FX-62 loses to Conroe by about a margin of 10% (FX-62 beat Conroe in one test in fact), which isn't what I'd call complete and utter victory.
But wait until K9 comes out.
