ATI's forthcoming R600 GPU (think X2000 or whatever ATI decides to call it) is already claimed to be the fastest DX9-compliant card right off the bat. The R600 promises (at the moment) to follow the same path as the XBox 360 by using a Unified Shader Architecture, 64 shader processors, 16 texture units, support for the upcoming GDDR-4 and, a clock speed just north of the X1900's 625/650MHz.
There's one problem, all of this premiere power will only shine with DX10 and a DX10 API will not be released for XP, only Vista which comes out next year January or February.
Could this be another Intel/AMD moment, but only in the ATI/Nvidia sense?
